416 Stainless Steel
|Tensile Strength (PSI)||Yield Strength (PSI)||Reduction of Area||Elongation in 2″||Brinell Hardness|
The above values are average and may be considered as representative of 416 stainless
Machinability is rated at 110% of B1112. Average cutting speed 180 ft/min.
416 has poor welding properties. Welds are brittle, with tendency to crack.
416 can be forged between 2100°-2300° F. Do not forge below 1700° F. Cool slowly.
Hardening range is between 1750° F and 1850° F. Quench large sections in oil. Small sections can be quenched in air. Temper to required hardness.
Annealing: Full annealing range is between 1550° F and 1650° F. Cool slowly in furnace. Low annealing range is between 1200° F and 1400° F. Cool in air.
